The author of the phenomenally selling Riding the Iron Rooster presents his own choice selection of his best travel writing. "There are those who think Theroux is the finest travel writer working in English. This collection can only enhance that reputation."--The New York Times Book Review.

Theroux's style of writing may appeal to others but I failed to find any literary value whatsoever. I really tried as travel stories appeal to my senses but this goes beyond worthless.

I have been reading Paul Theroux's travel books since The Great Railway Bazaar was first published. I have continued to read, re-read and read his travel books almost 30 years later. Descriptions of places are not the typical tourist sites or locales. They're places most of us will never see. Through Mr. Theroux's travels readers can gain a picture of so many different places. So many of those places aren't the same country on a map and certainly not the same politically. The people he encounters along the way just add to the locales. Was this review helpful?
