Imaginative picture book recommended by Dr. Laura Schlessinger and featured on her website's Reading Corner.

Chris, a young boy of 6, is playing in the park at Toad Catchers' Creek with his friends when he decides to attempt to cross the legendary monkey bars. On first attempt, he fails and falls to the ground. In the process, he loses his self-confidence and is embarrassed in front of his playmates. Chris' father consoles him and tells Chris the story of a Macaw named Screech who was afraid to fly. Screech allowed this fear to dominate his existence until one day, his friend Tracker falls from a branch high in the rainforest. As Screech watches him plummet towards the ground, Screech gathers all of his courage and uses the four magic words that his mother had taught him: I CAN DO IT. Armed with his mother's magic and his true courage, Screech takes off from his nest, catches Tracker and returns him safely to the ground. Screech, now the hero, has realized that he did have the power to overcome his fear and succeed where he had failed in the past.

    Perfect for Little Girls Too!

My daughter and I sat down and read the wonderful and colorful book, 'Toad Catchers' Creek' together and we loved it. The story encouraged her to try getting on her bicycle again after giving up several years ago. She tried several times and then was finally able to ride. Thank you for these wonderful words of encouragement and joy!

    A Modern Classic !

A young boy named Chris wants to give up in the face of a challenge. He finds inspiration in a story shared by his father, and he grows as a result. Told in buoyant verse, this story is an entertaining introduction to the idea that achieving begins with believing. The father/son relationship is a special element of this story and is celebrated in the author's dedication: '[To my father] for the many loving lessons he spent his time teaching me.' Martin Cannon¿s vivid illustrations create a captivating setting for this delightful story. Truly a quality production destined to be a modern classic.

    The Perfect Gift

I just finished re-reading Toad Catchers' Creek, and i absolutely love it. Not only are the illustrations some of the best I have ever see in a children's book, but the message is positive, encouraging and one people of all ages can relate to. As my headline says, it's the perfect gift.

    Your Child NEEDS this book!!!

There are so few children's books out there that inspire and encourage children at their core. This book does that. It will boost your child's courage and allow him or her to KNOW that anything is possible if one has heart, determination and a will to succeed. A delightful gem for everyone's library.

    For Fathers and Psychologists

I just read my 6 year old daughter The Toad Catcher's Creek and she loved it. It was ironic that the story had to do with accomplishing getting across the monkey bars because that's what my daughter had done yesterday. Getting across the monkey bars is something almost all kids can relate to. It is a great tale and inspiring for kids. The illustrations are brilliant and fun. The writing is imaginative and witty. As a psychologist I plan on reading it to my child patients as an inspirational, self-esteem book. I deal with kids all the time who give up easy and can't face the many common struggles found in childhood. This book is a fantastic addition to my theraputic books at work and fun books at home. Kids will love reading it and will emotionally grow in the process.

Toad Catchers¿ Creek is certainly a wonderful tale of security and encouragement for all ages.

Although this book was written and published for children, it is also good empowerment advice for adults. ¿I CAN DO IT¿ leaves a spirit knowing he can do anything he sets his mind on just believe in yourself. As Brian tells the story to his son, giving him power to believe in himself, he is sharing a parent-child experience that neither of them will forget. This unique empowering book is beautifully illustrated. Every color has been used and specially illustrated by Martin Cannon, bringing out the story as all eyes lay upon the colorful characters in a distinctive setting. As my son, who is seven years old, read Toad Catchers¿ Creek I could tell that he enjoyed it from his smiling face as he read it and actually getting into the book. I asked him, ¿What was the one thing he remembered the most about the book?¿ and he said, ¿Saying those secret words to help the boy, Chris. You know Mom! Those words you¿re always telling me. I CAN DO IT!¿ Well Brian, you have my 10 star votes because this just boosted his courage, plus it helped me as a mother in a quiet polite way of not saying, ¿I told you so.¿ The story consists of Chris falling off of the monkey bars in front of his friends and family hurting his pride. His father tells him of a story about Screech, a Macaw who was afraid to fly and Tracker, a monkey who needs Screeches help. But with Screech armed with his mother¿s magic words his courage conquers his fear and he thrives in helping his best friend Tracker. Once Chris has the power of those four little words he overcomes his fear as well and succeeds where he had failed in the past.

    A Marvelous and Colorful Ride!

What a wonderful book 'Toad Catchers' Creek' offers, for children, yes, but also for the Moms and Dads sharing the experience with them. Vibrant illustrations, compelling, creative narrative... Just terrific. A must-have for every family's storytelling library - and a wonderful gift!

This book made them sit still!!

What a great visual book that captures the heart of children easily with its beautifully illustrated pictures! My grandchildren ages: 3 and 5 were in love with this book visually and made me read it again to them!! This is one great 'kid' book that really grabs little ones' attention. The 3 year old thought the monkey was really cute too. My two grandsons can't still for nothing - and this book did the trick!! Bravo to the writers who really know how to get a kid's attention.
