Text and photographs present weather information, clothing choices, and activities for a sunny day.
Children's Literature - Jean BoreenPart of the "Pebble Plus" series' books, this one helps young readers understand the concept of the "sunny" day (and works well with another book focused on explaining "hot"). As with the other books in the series, we begin with a chapter defining the season or the time that one might experience "sunny." The chapters that follow discuss what one wears on a sunny day and what people can do on a sunny day. A fourth chapter than asks "How's the Weather?" and follows it up with a simple statement: "Today is sunny. What will the weather be like tomorrow?" The entire book is simply written, with sentences beginning with, typically, a simple noun followed by a verb, allowing young readers to understand basic subject-verb sentence patterns with prepositional phrases that add description to each sentence. Full page pictures match the descriptive sentences throughout the title and make it easy for young readers to connect to in terms of experiences. A glossary of words at the end of the book provides the necessary vocabulary to support the learning of young children, and "Read More" and "Internet Sites" sections offer additional information to help understand "sunny." This is a good basic text from a solid series for young readers.
