I love this book. So interesting. You are learning about the Revolutionary War, but in a better way....by reading it.

This is a wonderful book, it is full of excitement and suspence. I thought Ellen was a pretty smart girl and so did her grandfather, but she did not. She kept on getting bullied by the water pump by a mean girl. At the end of the book she stood up to her, and I thought that was great!

My students really enjoy this novel and it fits perfectly with our 5th grade curriculum about the Revolutionary War. It is a mid to lower 5th grade reading level so may not challenge stronger readers, but the adventure involved in the story hooked my students.

The book was pretty good. My son liked it when Mistress Murdock was trying to take off Toliver's wet breeches. She did not know he was a she.

I have read this book for Social Studies and I had said to myself that Ellen must be a pretty brave girl but if she is so brave why doesn't she go after Dicey! But sometimes you backfire and that's okay!
