Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Meredith E. Kiger
Tom likes to take his stuffed monkey, Pippo, along whenever he rides his tricycle, but since there is no proper place for Pippo to sit, he often falls off. When Tom sees his older friend Stephanie's bicycle with its special seat for holding her stuffed bear, he is envious. Stephanie helps Tom solve his problem with a creative and empathic solution. Minimalistic drawings and text will endear young listeners to Tom's plight. The large print is a plus for young readers.

PreS-Toddlers rejoice! Tom and his beloved monkey are back for another backyard adventure. When Tom rides his tricycle, Pippo always wants to come along; whenever they hit a bump, the toy goes flying. When the youngster's older friend arrives, she has a beautiful new two-wheeler with a special seat for her bear. Just as Tom is looking glum and concluding that ``Stephanie's bike is much better than mine,'' the girl, wise beyond her years, devises a wonderful solution. Oxenbury's trademark watercolor-and-pencil art delightfully reflects this sweet little boy's emotions-his love for his stuffed companion, his envy of the bigger bike, and his innocent awe of Stephanie. The simple images, large print, and small format are especially attractive to the youngest of readers. An ideal step up from board books to picture books.-Lisa S. Murphy, formerly at Dauphin County Library System, Harrisburg, PA
