    Definitive Hotwheels Guide ...but OUCH!!

Excellent picture reference but the price ...OUCH!! Probably worth $14.95. It is apparent that authors of price guides like these have the unfair advantage of raising the value of their own collections. We would welcome a more realistic guide.

STIIL THE BEST HOT WHEELS BOOK AVAILABLE

I definately think that if you are into Hot Wheels toys, this is the book to get. It now has info. and pricing on Sizzlers, HotBird airplanes, Zowees, etc., as well as an expanded list of colors available for each car. Overall it is an excellent piece of reference material.

The Best Hot Wheels Guide BUT...

Mike Strauss and Mattel (conflict of interest?!) team up to provide the best guide book currently available BUT it continues to be plagued with typos, inaccuracies and absurd guesses at value. Buy it for the pictures.

    Did anyone PROOFREAD this edition?

Though an excellent reference picture-wise and mostly description-wise, none of the errors from the 3rd edition (like the pictured engine-less Grass Hopper 'captioned' as the one with the exposed metal engine on p. 36) were corrected and there are several new errors in the new material (the 'Team Knight Rider' vehicles from the Action Packs were released in '98 not '99, and there are missing 'First Edition' numbers in many of the '99 descriptions). A lot of listed values are no where near what I've come across in the HW selling market. By some of the values listed, you can easily tell which ones Strauss likes and which ones he doesn't. Though it's great that he added other non-mainline HW vehicles (RRRumblers, Zowies, etc.), why aren't the 'Steering Rigs,' 'Haulers,' 'Long Haulers,' 'X-V Racers,' 'Scorchers,' 'Truck Co.,' 'Crack-Ups,' 'FlipOuts,' 'Stunt Ratz,' and a host of other non-mainline vehicles included (especially when he recognized that the '91 Ramp Truck first came out as the Wreckin' Rig in the '87 Crack-Ups line)? And why aren't the Leo-Mattel (India) HWs also included in the regular entries since he's always listed the Wisconsin Toy Co. vehicles? It's a good attempt, but still no where near being complete. (In fact, none of the 'book' guides are, even Parker's.) I may be too particular or nitpicky, but I've been collecting HWs since they came out back in 1968 and I've got a lot of vehicles that have never been 'price-guided' in book form, and not all the monthly HW-related magazines list these things either (you'd go broke buying them if they did). Though it's an excellent reference (for the pictures), it's not the best--or final--word.
