Tommy Flanagan laid down some of the best piano sounds around. This trio session with Tommy Potter on Bass and Roy Haynes on Drums was recorded in 1960. Flanagan has always been under-rated and deserves a listen. Haynes & Potter aquit themselves well. The Prestige Moodsville series was not meant to be just "Mood" music, but much of it can certainly perform that function. These mostly laid-back cuts stand up to serious listening as well as being great "bachelor pad" music. The sound is quite good throughout - nicely re-mastered.

All Music Guide - Scott Yanow
Since this set (reissued on CD) was originally recorded for the Prestige subsidiary Moodsville, most of the selections are taken at slow tempos. With bassist Tommy Potter and drummer Roy Haynes giving the pianist fine support, the trio cooks a bit on Flanagan's "Jes' Fine" but otherwise plays such songs as "You Go to My Head," "Come Sunday" (which is taken as a solo piano feature), and "Born to Be Blue" quietly and with taste.
