Tommyland: The Ride

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - James Christopher Monger
Released in conjunction with his book of the same name, as well as his new reality television series Tommy Lee Goes to College, Tommyland: The Ride is the Mötley Crüe drummer's second foray -- not including Methods of Mayhem -- into faux-solo land. Lee lends his name, drums, and some vocals to 12 rockers, power ballads, summer anthems, and emo-drenched exercises in futility that employ the voices and guitar playing of pretty much anybody available. There's nothing genuine here, but nobody who has followed the highly public exploits of the eternal "bad boy" with any kind of devotion will be looking for a crack in the sky with Lee's tattooed hand reaching down ...

Lee lends his name, drums, and some vocals to 12 rockers, power ballads, summer anthems, and emo-drenched exercises in futility that employ the voices and guitar playing of pretty much anybody available. There's nothing genuine here, but nobody who has followed the highly public exploits of the eternal "bad boy" with any kind of devotion will be looking for a crack in the sky with Lee's tattooed hand reaching down with a scroll full of wisdom, so why overanalyze? Dave Navarro and Butch Walker provide the meat on "Good Times," an amiable slice of California pop that doubles as his TV show's theme song, the tough and catchy "Sister Mary" features Carl Bell of Fuel, and "Tired," a pop-punk bull's-eye sung by Good Charlotte's Joel Madden, celebrates the many attributes of Lee's ex-wife Pamela Anderson. Even Backstreet Boy Nick Carter rises to the occasion with "Say Goodbye," a perfectly rendered acoustic number that's a veritable template for the art of the tender-verse/loud-chorus heartbreaker. There are some things in the world that provide balance, and a record like Tommyland is the fulcrum on which all things that actually matter rest.

    What A Ride

This cd is so amazing. The music mellows you, but at the same time exhilerates you. Tommy put a lot of time, work, and talent into this album, and it shows.

    5 Stars for Tommy Lee!

Tommy Lee rocks on "Tommyland The Ride". Tommy loves his fans and we, his fans, love him. Just like his last solo CD, "Never A Dull Moment", this album is full of true, heavy hittin' songs like "Tryin' To Be Me", tongue-in-cheek "Tired" and real down to earth grooves like "Say Goodbye" . Tommy Lee has proven, since doin' his solo thing back in Methods of Mayhem, that he is an expert in sound and song composition. Motley fan or not, check out this multi faceted CD and you are sure to find a song you like!! Rock On Tommy Lee!

    CrueDude-71

I think this CD is Tommy Lee's best yet. I like the mixture of music. It shows his variety of music that he digs. If you like Never a Dull Moment then you will most likely like this CD. You can't go wrong with buying this.

TOMMYLAND IS A WONDERFUL PLACE TO VISIT

This is one ride I'll take ovre and over! This is one of those rare finds where every track is good. Tommy has proven that he is way more than just a drummer, he has it all. It's hard to pick a favorite but I really like Good Times, Sister Mary, and Tired. But trust me every song rocks!

Tommyland takes you for a ride

The thing I love the most about Tommy is his continued collaboration with other artists, and he does exceptionally well on Tommyland: The Ride. From Butch Walker, to Nick Carter, to Joel Madden this cd features very talented musicians that help make this a rocking record! If you enjoyed his last solo album, Never A Dull Moment, you'll definately enjoy this one. Top tracks include "Good Times," "Tryin' To Be Me," and "Hello, Again" which is also featured as an acoustic version. Tommyland:The Ride is definately worth every penny. One of my favorite albums of 2005! I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a solid rock album.
