Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carrie Hane Hung
When you cannot see as well in the dark, things can become a little creepier. A collection of eight scary short stories of hair raising experiences await those readers who enjoy the suspense. Justin Porter teases his younger sister who is afraid of something that is under her bed. One night, he decides to play a joke and the joke is on him. Katie Hill loves to go downstairs for a midnight snack with her dog, Midnight. During one of her midnight trips to the kitchen, Katie wonders what really has happened. Stephen Phelps is not looking forward to his dancing lessons and the dance; however, at the dance, he meets and dances with Dawn. The question is, "Who is Dawn?" The illustration at the beginning of each story provides foreshadow of the plot. The stories have interesting endings. Some of the tales have a twist and others leave the reader wondering what really happened. The power of suggestion and an active imagination may further add to the thrill of the stories. These chilling stories may be too scary for younger readers. This book is part of the "Nighttime" series of scary stories. Reviewer: Carrie Hane Hung
