Children's LiteratureThe fingerplays in this book are well written and appropriate for young children. A collection of fun activities and facts, this is a wonderful book for preschool teachers to read aloud to their students. The fingerplays cover a variety of topics, ranging from cuddly bunnies to falling leaves and thunderstorms. All of the fingerplays are poetic, and the small boxed pictures next to the words nicely illustrate finger motions. Moffatt beautifully rendered the artwork with an extremely creative and fun technique of paper cutting. The end result is so beautiful. The people have color, the birds have perfect feathers, and the leaves are cut and slightly folded in just the right way. The artist even paid attention to shadows and background details. Older elementary students may find this book childish, but the younger children will love it! 2001 (orig. 1995), Cartwheel Books/Scholastic, Ages 3 to 7.
