Overview

It is the middle of the night when pathologist Toni Day receives a call from the coroner informing her that the notoriously sleazy local attorney,
Jay Braithwaite Burke, has just been found dead in his Mercedes in the middle of a snowy interstate. Unfortunately, everyone at Perrine
Memorial Hospital where Toni works knows Burke. Over the years,
he managed to talk nearly the entire medical staff into investing into his hedge fund. After it was revealed they had all foolishly invested in a Ponzi scheme, the feds moved in and he disappeared. Now, two months later, Toni is about to perform his autopsy.

It is no secret around town that many might have wished the attorney dead, including Toni and her husband, Hal. As she delves into Burke's autopsy, Toni already knows they have few clues to go on; when she learns the man bled to death, she suspects it was a homicide. To complicate matters further, Burke's partner also dies in suspicious circumstances, and
Burke's widow and children are left homeless by a series of house fires.
With a brutal schedule and doubts about her husband's faithfulness,
Toni's life is already complex enough.

But when a mysterious illness casts a bloody pall over the holiday season,
Toni must rely on her pathological expertise to unmask a killer and rescue herself and everyone she loves from a bloody death.

    Fascinating! Intense!

Where do I start? Too Much Blood by Jane Bennett Munro captured me from that first “middle of the night” phone call that could have waited until morning! You know the one, regarding work, that you can do nothing about, and it wakes up everyone in the house and no matter what you CANNOT get back to sleep! From this moment on, we are inside Toni Day’s mind, living each scene with her, processing the events with her and being poked in the heart with her emotions! Toni is a pathologist, suspicious deaths that need to be examined, bodies that need to be dissected for hidden information, its all part of her life. What happens when a possible murder hits too close to home? The list of suspects is as large as a small town phone book and the possible reasons behind the unusual death of a man who has swindled millions of dollars from investors, is long and varied. The cause of death? Although mysterious in origin, it is brutal, bloody and obviously torturous, the deed of extreme calculation and malice. After finding the cause, will Toni find the murderer before the murderer can add her to their list of victims?

Jane Bennett Munro writes with the knowledge of one who once dealt with the medical society, pegging not only the medical jargon, but the often stereo-typical personalities of those in the medical field. Toni is a brilliant, force to be reckoned with! As I was transported into her mind, following her thoughts, I felt the need to buckle in and hold on tight! Ms. Munro has created and shaped a huge cast of characters that beg to be released from the pages of this tale, they are that real, from quirky to solidly twisted and everything in between! She is not afraid to make the reader hate the character one minute, feel their pain the next! Sarcasm rules, too, with intense dialogue and interaction between characters!

The pace NEVER slows down, the subplots add even MORE reality, because life isn’t a straight line, there are roadblocks, detours and danger signs mixed in with those warm and fuzzy moments. I want to thank the author for sharing this book with me in exchange for my honest review! If you love a good medical mystery, with a dash of romantic conflict, a few fires and you don’t mind the mental sight/smell of blood and guts, you are going to love this book!

I'm a huge mystery buff, it's one of my favorite genres.  From the back cover copy, the title and the cover, I expected to be on the edge of my seat for this read. Boy, was I disappointed! Like I said, I'm a fan of all the CSI shows and usually pick up a suspense novel first.  This mystery in this novel, though, is buried beneath stories of a marriage that may or may not be on the rocks (I honestly didn't care, there was nothing likeable about the characters) and gossipy neighbors  who can't seem to keep their pants on.  The main character, Toni, is unlikable. She blurts out questions that are not only inappropriate but seem entirely ridiculous.  I don't care that the author has been a pathologist for over 30 years,  the medical terminology sometimes bogged down the pace.  There's supposed to be chemistry between her and a detective, but that  never really translates.  I hate to say it--and I've never given a book a 1 star before--but don't bother.  I was so disappointed with this novel...and I truly wanted to love it because I dislike wasting money and time.

If you love a good mystery/murder book then this is the book for you. Those are the types of books that I really enjoy. Toni gets a call in the middle of the night about Jay Burke being dead. He was found dead in his Mercedes in the middle of a snowy interstate. Toni does autopsies, so she was told to do an autopsy on Jay. Jay was known to be a sleazy local attorney. Everyone even may have wished Jay were dead. Does that mean someone may have killed him? You'll have to read the book to find out. This was one of those books that I had a hard time putting down. Defiantly kept me on the edge of my seat.

For anyone who likes thriller, murder mysteries, keep you on the edge of your toes reads, this one will not disappoint. The fact that Jane, the author has been a pathologist for over 33 years really shows through the explanation and details when describing the scenes that Toni is witnessing. For someone who has no clue when it comes to what to look for in a crime scene, she did a great job at really giving you details and not overwhelming you with medical jargon. The only drawback I have is that I would have liked the characters to have been built up a little more for us as readers. This would have allowed us to get to know them better. Plus keeping the story flowing rather than jumping from scene to scene would have made it an easier read to follow. There where several times where I had to go back to figure out what was happening. Otherwise a good thriller.
