Reviewed by Melissa D Book provided by Ellora’s Cave Review originally posted at Romancing the Book Too Much to Lose is the fourth book in the Love Beyond Barriers series by Missy Jane. While this book is part of a series it can be read and enjoyed as a standalone novel. I chose this book after I read the summery. I was intrigued and wanted to read it to see if it lived up to what the summery promised. Shayla is emotionally a wreck worrying over dealing with her father and Ben at her brother’s wedding. She does not seem ready to deal with seeing her father, the man that left her as a child and took her brother. While she seems normally a strong person she seems right emotionally distraught at times. Ben has been in love with Shayla since he first saw her. He has even gone to the point of researching apartments in New York where Shayla lives. He is a sweet and loving man. He will stand up to Shayla when she needs it or be a friend when she needs that too. He comes across as the ultimate nice guy. The chemistry between Ben and Shayla is explosive. The sex scenes were hot and spicy. Ben is a wonderful person and a great compliment to Shayla. I really liked how he stood by Shayla as she tried to deal with seeing her father and the emotions it brings up. I would have liked to have seen more background information about Shayla and Ben and why they each act the way they do. I think it would have helped fill out the story more and give a better prospective of the characters. Overall, this was enjoyable emotionally filled drama. Boy did it live up to what the summery promised. I really liked this story. Moreover, I will be picking up the rest of the books in the series.
This one is my least favorite. Two week date is my fave by this author. Shayla is hard to like. Blaming bad behavior on childhood and previous relationship trauma is a weak cop out. Ben deserved better
