Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
A boy introduces readers to a saw, hammer and nails, and "sandpaper to smooth wood and plaster" in The Toolbox by Anne and Harlow Rockwell, a board book edition of this husband-and-wife team's 1971 collaboration. Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
For all those young kids who are in awe of what their Dads (and today's Moms) can do with tools, this is a great way to learn the names of all the most commonly used ones and to learn what they do. Each page depicts a tool and sometimes what that tool can do. For example, the wrench is accompanied by a big fat bolt and nuts; the plane produces curly shavings; and the text says that a drill goes around and around and makes holes in wood, and the picture shows a piece of wood with three holes. Kids and caregivers should have plenty of fun naming the tools and perhaps as they get a little older, using pretend tools, and eventually helping mom or dad actually use some of the tools. I remember very well my play tool kit and thought it was great fun to hammer plastic nails and play with a screwdriver. It has stood me in good stead ever since.
