Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
Patricelli’s trademark style of thick black lines on brushstroke-heavy backgrounds in jewel-tone colors are perfectly suited to her playful and irreverent subject matter. The young protagonist narrates both offerings in simple, direct sentences, and Patricelli fills the rest of the books with captions and sound effects galore... [A] playful delight...
—Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

Little listeners will delight in the book’s celebration of the joys of body noise. ... For families willing to have some flatulence-themed fun, this is a must-have.

Children's Literature - Suzanne Javid
Is it a train or a ship? Could be either, but it is neither. This title is a frank book, which celebrates bodily functions, namely flatulence, made by Baby when he is riding his trike, in his snowsuit and in music class to name just a few. Better suited to family reading than to classroom read-alouds, this title by the creator of several others starring the bald Baby, is done in the author’s trademark thick black lines on jewel-tone backgrounds. A brief discussion of other sounds baby makes is cutely illustrated and includes burbs, hiccups, cries, yawns, snores, coughs, sneezes, and laughs among others. Twenty-two pages with five double-page spreads including the inside back cover, rounded corners, and hand lettering; this title is a first edition. The author writes in simple sentences with many captions and sound effects, Young children will undoubtedly love the potty talk theme and older children will have a giggle or two. Potty talkers will certainly expand their prior knowledge of the subject. If there is a need to celebrate the joys of flatulence, this may be the read. Reviewer: Suzanne Javid; Ages 3 mo. to 3.

It's a plain fact: bodily functions and the sounds they make are funny. In Patricelli's latest, a toddler joyfully discovers his ability to, well, toot. He toots like a train, he toots on his trike, he toots in music class. Even better, the little tooter discovers that everyone does it—even mom and dad. What a gas!—Kiera Parrott, School Library Journal
