Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Cary J. Cunningham, DDS, MNSA (University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine)
Description: This is a basic text on simple to moderately complex exodontics. It is an in-depth manual for the beginning practitioner and a convenient reference for the seasoned professional.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide an approachable practical manual on tooth extraction.
Audience: This manual is primarily for the beginning practitioner.
Features: Techniques of basic exodontics and hand techniques are covered well in this manual. It is also an excellent combination of detailed diagrams with clinical photographs. The book naturally references standard practice in Britain, which can be different in other countries.
Assessment: This is a high quality, very useful, concise handbook of manual and simple surgical exodontics. The book also contains a variety of anaesthetic techniques. There is also a good review of common complications of exodontics. Other books in the field are detailed texts, which make them difficult to use as a ready reference. The original text is 30 years old. It was definitely time for an update.
