    Topical Memory System

This Bible memory system is a doozy! Inside the box, one will find two books and a little card holder. One book is full of exercises, quizzes, fill-ins, drills, and such that span thirty weeks. Instructions are given for what to do and what to think of as one tries to memorize verses. The other book is full of oodles of Bible verse cards. It is a tad tedious to tear out all the cards, and it is irritating when some rip in the process. However, once the reader is done with that task, they are geared to go. The verses are given in different translations. The card holder does not hold many cards. However, doing with the weekly plan, one would not have to hold / study all the cards at once. Overall, this system is nice for those that want to memorize verses. The cards are useful, and the instructional book is fun yet full of discipline. Best of all, the system encourages that readers think and pray over the verses they read. After all, one is more likely to actually memorize verses if they understand them and attribute special meaning to them.

    Scripture Memory Course

As a blogger for Navpress publishers, I recently recieved the Navigators' Scripture Memory Topical Memory System: Hide God's Word in Your Heart package. Included were a 75 page book on how to make the most out of the memory course a.k.a the "Course Workbook", and a book of perforated pages, by which the reader could neatly tear out small verse cards with a choice of eight translations to choose from. Lastly, included in the set is a "sturdy vinyl verse-card holder" according to the box. Hopefully the reader wont get too excited about the "sturdy vinyl holder" which is reminiscent of the thin, flimsy, vinyl covers which come free with certain prescription pill medications which neccesitate a cover for discretion and to protect from accidental sun exposure.

For many readers who wish to try and remember their favorite bible verses, the old fashioned method of writing bible verses on index cards is sufficient. But, for those who either do not have the initiative, or the time, or perhaps they may not know which verses to start with, and who find it a bit too overwhelming to select and write down verses on their own, this kit will be useful. Unlike full sized index cards, the small sized cards in this kit, which are smaller than business cards, make it very convienient to carry the verses in a pocket, a wallet or purse. Because the cards are duplicated in eight different bible translations, this kit is perfect to share with a friend or two. Furthermore, the choice of verses specifically selected for this course, cover a wide range of important biblical topics and themes. The course book is meant to be used alongside the memory verses, and not intended to be read from cover to cover.

While this kit offers a wide variety of useful verses covering a variety of topics, some may find eventually that the pre-chosen verses are too limiting. But this will not present a problem because there are a few blank perforated cards by which the reader may write down his or her own favorite verses as well. There are many benefits to reading and commiting to memory, bible verses. This kit will open the reader up to the importance and benefits of remembering individual bible verses. This kit certainly makes it convienient to do so. I recieved this kit for the purpose of writing a review and was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed in this review are my own.

Really helped to not just learn scripture but to apply it

"Topical Memory System: Hide God's Word in Your Heart" by The Navigators is a great scripture memory course designed to help you learn scripture with a purpose. The system comes with a course workbook, a book of memory verse cards with several translations for you to chose from and a holder for the scripture cards you are currently working on. The course book provides a description of how to use this system, helpful tips for memorization, and discussion on how to incorporate God's Word into your everyday life. The scriptures for memorization are broken down into different sections and arranged in an applicable way to study and grow in God's word and in your walk of faith. Series A: Live the new life with 12 Scriptures, Series B: Proclaim Christ with 12 scriptures and so on through E. It's truly set up as a course workbook complete with timeline for completion which is great for those who may tend to procrastinate or not sure how long to work through this book. You can go at your own pace though too. I struggle with memorization so I took my needed time to learn the passages. Each new series has a short introduction and helpful hints continue to show up throughout the text. I found this to be a great study and have had success in memorization of scripture verses and reference, which they strongly encourage learning along with the verses. I like that not only was I learning scriptures but there was also a lesson and purpose behind the selected scriptures from which to continue to draw from.

I received a free copy of this book from NavPress blogger review program for the purpose of this review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.

    A Great Scripture Memorization Tool!

I find that having the workbook together for me to work through the scriptures are incredibly useful. It makes the scriptures come alive! It helps me to reflect and think through. It helps me to apply the scriptures in real life situations. To give an example, for Week 1 Series A (Live the New Life), the verses to memorize are 2 Cor 5:17 and Galatians 2:20. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV) I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Gal 2:20 NIV) And the questions for meditation for 2 Corinthians 5:2 What is the key to living a truly new life? What has happened to your "old" life? What things have changed in your life since you became a Christian? And these questions remind me that the very essential thing that truly allows me to live the new life is about being in Christ. It is not about me, it is not about what I have done and not done. The old life is gone! The old life is dead and I do not need to obey to the lustful desires of my old life. The more I spend my time living the new life that Christ has enabled me to do so, the more I want to desire the new life. And the last question helps me to reflect on what had happened to my life ever since I become a new creation in Christ - hating the things that I used to tolerate, becoming more aware of sins as things that displease God, etc, etc - these are the slowing moving process that shape me day by day into the likeness of Christ, my Savior. **************************** Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from NavPress Publishers as part of their Blogger Review program.
