When Saskia Hartley and her nine-year-old son are run down outside a restaurant, DI Nelson knows it is no ordinary hit-and-run incident. When two prostitutes are murdered, but little interest is given to the women on the Krull's payroll, Nelson connects the dots. DI Nelson has to decide whether he's dealing with a turf war or something far more sinister.

Detective Inspector Hero Nelson is a complicated man. The stresses of his job make him drink too much. His wife goes out of her
way to be understanding which only leaves him feeling all the more guilty. His son needs more of his time. Oh, yeah, and his wife
wants another child. And that's just his personal life. On top of all that, Hero must solve the murders of a wealthy woman and her son,
while prostitutes and gang members are falling like flies. All of the killings must be connected, but how and why? Hero has to put
the splintered pieces together before more people die and the whole city descends into chaos.

Comley has developed a perfect, complex character on which to build a new series. I'm not surprised. I read her Justice Series and
enjoyed every book. I look forward to the next DI Hero Nelson story.

    Fast-paced, gritty, and violent scenes.

I became a fan of Mel's after reading my first Justice book. I love the way she incorporates the private lives of her characters into the story giving me a chance to not only read a good story, but feel as if I also know the main players.
Torn Apart sheds light on a major problem that many American cities endure--gangs and gang violence. I'm always amazed at the difference between British Law Enforcement, and American Law Enforcement. It's actually part of my enjoyment in reading these books.

DI Hero Nelson finds himself and his team embroiled in a series of brutal murders, and the worst psychotic gang any police force could come up against. By the time I reached Chapter 10--I couldn't put it down. A real page turner.

I'm really looking forward to more of what I hope to be another long series with Hero and his partner Julie.

Warning--violent scenes. If you love shows like Criminal Minds then you will love this book.
