Darcie Deaville's debut, Tornado in Slo-Mo, is an impressive effort that showcases her natural eclecticism and subtle mastery of a number of different American styles. Kicking off with the Cajun-spiced "Who Needs You," the album proceeds to run through a number of idioms, from traditional-styled folk and country to contemporary singer/songwriter tunes. Deaville delivers each song quite convincingly through a mixture of inspiration and professionalism. What impresses is not only her fine selection of tunes, but the fact that she's equally skilled on fiddle, mandolin and voice, and can deliver great songs.
