Overview

“Hold tight,” I said. “No matter what happens, do not let us go.”“We won’t,” my dad said.“Never,” Mom added. And with a look at Lia, we laid our hands upon the prints. Gabriella and Evangelia Betarrini are just two normal American teenagers. Normal except for the fact that they time travel to fourteenth-century Italy, where they’ve lived in castles they’ve seen as crumbling ruins, become swept up in historic battles, and fallen in love with handsome knights willing to do anything to keep them alive.
They’ve returned to the present to save their father, just short of his tragic death, and now all four return to the place that holds the girls’ hearts, medieval Italy. But remaining there means facing great risk as the battle for territory wages on and the coming Black Plague looms. Can they convince their parents to stay and leave behind everything they’ve worked so hard to accomplish? And will the girls sacrifice their futures in an uncertain past? Or in facing death head-on, will they discover life as it was always meant to be lived?

    Wonderful!

It wraps up the story that has unfolded over the last three books beautifully, and there was nothing bad about this book, other than the fact it ended! I simply cannot wait for the alleged 'Bourne' novella and final(?) book 'Tributaries'. Then again, maybe it's simply rumours...Still. The River of Time series is a must-read foe any romantic!

This book is the ultimate ending for the river of time series! The relationship between Gabi and Marcello is the best! You fall in love with this book right away and you can't put it down. There are so many unexpected twists and turns that just make the book even better. Overall a very amazing read!

    I Also Recommend:

    Wow! 'Torrent' is FANTASTIC!

'Torrent' the third (and final) book in 'The River of Time' series and the fourth book that I've read by Lisa T. Bergren.

'Torrent' picks up right where 'Cascade' left off. After traveling through time to save their dad - Gabi, Lia, Adri (their mom), and Ben (their dad), travel back in time to 14th Century Italy.

Even though there is the threat of the 'Black Plague' arriving, getting killed, and/or tortured, Gabi and Lia still want to return and remain in Medieval Italy for as long as possible.

They will have to deal with wars (again), imprisonment (again), kidnapping, and forced marriage.

I loved this book! The story was so addicting and I finished 'Torrent' in under 2 days! There was alot of action, romance, and a ton of suspense! I liked many of the characters including: Gabi, Lia, Marcello, Luca, Ben, and Adri - to name some of them.

As I said 'Torrent' is very addicting and I don't think there was a "good" place to stop reading because I wanted to continue on and see where the story was going to continue. If you decide to read 'Torrent' be prepared to stay up late reading?!

I REALLY hope that Lisa Bergren will write more books in the future with these characters (I don't want to say goodbye to them yet...) and if she does, I definitely plan on reading them!

I highly recommend the entire 'River of Time' series ('Waterfall', 'Cascade', and 'Torrent').

?Many thanks to David C. Cook for providing me a complimentary copy for my review and Lisa T. Bergren for sending me a Galley Copy.?

After saving their dad in the 21st century - Gabi, Lia and their parents travel back to the 14th century.
More than a year has passed for Marcello. He is even more determined to marry Gabi. But before Gabi can make a decision, her whole family must agree to stay in the 14th century. And before a final decision can be made Gabi is put in prison and Firenze tries to force her in marriage with one of their citizens. Gabi tries to escape, but get captured again and now is lead to the altar immediately.

Can Gabi escape this forced marriage? Can she get back to Marcello before she is bound to another man? Will Gabi's family decide to stay in the 14th century?

I really loved this book. It is the perfect ending of an exciting trilogy. Rarely I have read a trilogy that captivated me so fully. The story drew me deep in. I loved the characters, the adventure, the romance, the setting. Well, I just loved everything about it.
I loved reading about Gabi's growing faith in God. She is trusting Him more and more.
I was a tiny bit disappointed that there wasn't much Lia and Luca time. So I really do hope to read more about these characters - maybe in a new series?

This series was written for Young Adult, but as an adult I also loved it a lot! I'm sure I will read this series again to enjoy Lisa's excellent storytelling.
I highly recommend this series for all ages.

    Perfect conclusion

How much love do I have for this book? So, so much. The first note I made after reading the book is "loveeeee <3". So yah, that might tell you a little bit about what I thought of 'Torrent'.

I just adore the characters in these novels so much. I couldn't help but race through 'Torrent' to find out what was going to happen next, but I want to delve right back into it from the beginning and experience it all over again. Seriously, it's making me sad that my journey with these characters is over.

There are so many epic aspects to these novels that it's hard to pick a favourite, but I probably adore the romance the most. The love between Gabi and Marcello is so deep and true. It's not often that I read about the kind of connection they have. Marcello is so kind and he adores Gabi so much, he'll do anything for her. And Gabi's love for Marcello? Well, let's examine the sacrifice she wants to make for him: is willing to give up modern life and stay in a dangerous time period because she loves Marcello so much. Real and deep love? Yes, I think so.

Another awesome part of 'Torrent' (and the previously books) is the theme of family. These characters are truly willing to sacrifice for each other. They love each each other so much, and they always consider their family members when making decisions. They protect each other. And then there's the action. Lisa T. Bergren absolutely knows how to write an action packed book. There is never a dull moment, that's for sure! But even when there are quieter moments in the plot the writing is always exciting.

'Torrent' is the perfect conclusion to the 'River of Time' series. It ties things up well enough, but it's not neat and packaged with a bow either. It feels more like real life to have an ending like that. Basically? This book and this series are so lovely. The characters are amazing and the books are full of adventure and romance. I would definitely label them as 'must-reads'.

The final tale in the entertaining young adult River of Time allegory is a superb entry

For years teenagers Gabriella and Evangelia Betarrini accompanied their parents on archeological digs. However recently the pair has seen the ruins in their original state as they have traveled back on the River of Time to a few years ago in which they saved their father's life (see Waterfall) and to 1332 Siena, Italy (see Cascade).

Gabi loves Lord Marcello Forelli and Lia loves Captain Luca Palmucci. As such the Betarrini family of four returns to 1333 Siena in which the war continues even with Rossi exposed as a traitor and Marcello now a member of the Nine. The family from the future also knows the plague is coming soon to Siena and the rest of the Italian Peninsular. If they find their men alive, Lia and Gabi have decisions to make about their future; if not they consider going back a year to intervene.

The final tale in the entertaining young adult River of Time allegory is a superb entry as decision time is upon the teens. The story line is cleverly anchored in the past with little things like when dad tries to understand how and when his pacifist wife became a warrior and his first awkward meeting with Marcello. There are also big events from the annals of history as well. The cast is strong especially the three prime couples and Father Tomas as Lisa T. Bergren provides a suspenseful taut thriller in which she makes a case that time flows like a river gently soothing even when turning into a Cascade or a Waterfall, but that same mild flow can become violent when it turns into a raging Torrent.

Marcello went to save Lord Greco and Father Tomas, and Gabby ran away to help, Lord Evil captured her and almost killed her dad. Marcello caught Gabby before she fell to her death and saved her. The twist and turns in this book blew my mind.  Gabi's love for Marciello is tested to the deepest limits. In addition, Gabi has to deal with her dad meeting Marciello, a daunting experience regardless of which century you belong to. This third book captivated me and took me to the precipice. It was funny, serious, dangerous, adventurous, heartwarming, heart wrenching all simultaneously. Lisa Bergren masterfully wove this story together and made it feel real, which is not an easy task.  This was an audio book that I purchased and listened to, and the narration was great.  I would recommend this to anyone, and it is definitely family friendly. Loved it!

    great read

Gabi, Lia and their mother collect their father/husband and succeed in returning to the 14th century. Gabi continues to have many adventures only now her family along with Marcello tries to rescue her. There is plenty more adventure with suspense and romance. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this story.

    Great series

I enjoyed the first 3 books and the Christian angle to this is not off-putting at all. If you're not in to religious story bends, don't get turned off with this series. I'm glad I didn't allow my bias from preventing me in discovering this treasure.
