Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carlee Hallman
The hare was always boasting. He bragged about how fast he was. The other animals ran off when he started talking. The tortoise challenged him to a race. They would run around a pond. A log was the starting and finishing line. The hare ran fast, but stopped to rest half way around. Then he went to sleep. The slow but steady tortoise won the race. A party was held in celebration. The hare hid for the next three months. The hare is blue with a red tee shirt and yellow shoes. The tortoise wears a hat with a flower sticking up. There is a page of questions at the end such as: "What is the moral, or lesson, of the story?" A glossary defines words such as "arrogance." Two pages of facts about hares and tortoises follow. This is one of the "Storybook Classics" series. Children will enjoy this classic tale with its stylized pictures in bright colors. Reviewer: Carlee Hallman
