Editorial Reviews

Library Journal

Thiboldeaux and Golant, president and vice president, respectively, of the Wellness Community, an international nonprofit cancer support organization, add to the mountain of resources available on cancer with this comprehensive guidebook. Advocating a "patient active" approach, they define cancer, assist in choosing medical teams, describe how to obtain second opinions, and offer up healthy recipes, among other things. Complementing the text are testimonials, lists and tables of practical questions to ask, a contact list of cancer-specific not-for-profit organizations, a reference list, a glossary of terms, and a series of appendixes that include reusable forms and information sheets so the reader can create a health record of medical information, e.g., lists of medications prescribed and doctors consulted. This resource will help patients feel less overwhelmed and intimidated by medical jargon and procedures and empower them to make informed decisions. Highly recommended for all health collections, especially hospital patient, public consumer health, and nonprofit organization collections.
