More About This Book

Everyone knows how Dorothy and Toto save Oz from the Wicked Witch of West...or do they?

How will Dorothy survive in a land filled with haunted bags of straw, hollow metal men and giant smelly cats?
How will she fight off killer bees, mad wolves and really annoying monkeys?
How will she defeat a witch with mind control and an all-seeing eye?
And how will Dorothy ever find the way home?

The simple truth is that she won't, at least not alone. Of course, she's not alone - she has Toto, her best friend.

That is, Toto used to be her best friend. But in Oz, Dorothy spends more time talking to a cat than to her. And Toto finds new friends, too. Maybe, he should just bring his wolf friends back to Kansas instead...

I loved the idea of hearing the story of Dorothy's adventures in Oz from Toto's point of view. I often wonder what my dog and cats are thinking. I do believe they are a lot smarter then we give them credit for!

That being said, while the story itself was very cute, I found it to be a difficult read. I had to go back and re-read things to understand what the authors were trying to get across. Naturally Toto didn't always have the words for what he was trying to say and in their place he used the word 'something.' This was quite confusing to me until I got used to it.

All of our old friends from Oz are there, the Man of Tin, scarecrow and lion. It was amusing to hear the descriptions of them from Toto. He thought the scarecrow needed brains and the lion porridge.

I think kids would like this book especially younger ones if it's read to them. I could actually see it as an animated cartoon or movie. I think the things that were hard to read would come out much better in a cartoon. Overall it was a cute read that fans of The Wizard of Oz would enjoy.

Great book for pre-teens, and if you love dogs

This story is told from a dog's point of view as if he is talking. We all remember the story of "The Wizard of Oz" so this is Toto's story. Toto smells the storm coming and the humans and know what they will do, but he is worried about the chickens so he started trying to chase them and get them to safely, but they would not do anything but run from him.

As the roar of the wind grew closer and there were things flying all around, he didn't know what to do. Dorthy was there one minute and then she was gone. So he knew they were not in "Kansas anymore", but where were they? Dorthy was his pet so she should be looking out for him.

I am telling you folks that this book is so cute, you just have to get a copy and read it. There is not a lot I can say that has not been told before about "The Wizard of Oz" but in Toto's words it is unbelievable.

A great book for anyone but was published under the juvenile fiction/fantasy catalogue.

Wonderful version - my we love it!

I started reading Toto's Tale about a week ago. From the beginning, I enjoyed Toto's character. He's sassy, confident and loyal: a great friend. My 10-year-old daughter is reading it now, and she just loves him. She has shown pieces of Toto's dialog that have made her laugh enough to want to share. I recommend this book to any adult who just wants to relax with a well structured read and great character development. I have also been recommending this book to the moms at my daughters school. If your child likes to read about animal characters, he/she will love this book! You or your child will not be disappointed.

Great modern version of a classic story

The Wizard of Oz is a cool story but it's hard to read the old fashioned book to modern kids. They get bored. This version was a lot more fun. It got me thinking a little bit about what it means to be a friend. But mostly it was just a fun book.
