Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Just as in teaching counting, there is a plethora of books that teach colors. In this case, the added extra is a tactile component. Running your fingers across the book cover, you can feel the raised scales of the chameleon. Turning to the first page, a bright red strawberry (and yes, it is truly red) has raised black bumps which are repeated on the left-hand side of the spread. Blue is represented by an ocean and blue sky with two sailboats with sails billowing to look like they are racing by. Other colors featured are yellow (cheese), green (leaves on a tree), and black and white (zebra). As the back cover explains, books in the "Touch, Look, and Learn" series used textures to reinforce recognition. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
