Editorial Reviews

Goodreads - Marlene at
"A time-travel romance, in which, Rose Walden is sent to 13th century France during a freak storm. There Rose meets Julien, a mason, who is secretly sculpting a gargoyle to enter into a competition. The romance in this story is enchanting..."

"Rose Waldman started her trip to London via France, where everything seem to going exactly how she planned, until she misses her connecting flight and ends up staying the night in a small village in the countryside...After going through the whole story between her and Julian, I have to say she made me a believer. The story was really romantic and the two of them together are just pure magic. It is rare that I find a couple rather than a single character really making a story worth while."
http://wonbooksblog.blogspot.com/ - Janette Schmitt
"Star-crossed lovers must conquer obstacles of arranged marriage, cruel adversaries, and time itself to protect their new love. There were a few nicely placed steamy bits (Mmm... steamy bits) to keep the reader turning pages in hope of more."

Rose is in France trying to get to Edinburgh for a speaking engagement when strange things start happening. She misses her flight, gets lost on a jog around a familiar city and is drawn to a church with a gargoyle statue that winks at her! As she tries to make it back to her hotel she stops to admire a statue, gets hit by lightning and is transported in time. Rose wakes up to the sight of a gorgeous half-naked man chiseling on a large stone. He speaks in a French dialect she’s not familiar with and accuses her of being a harlot for touching his bare chest. Rose thinks she’s in the middle of a re-enactment scene from the past until she realizes the unbelievable truth; she’s in the year 1240. I enjoyed this short novella. I did have an issue with the fact that Rose was putting the moves on Julien when he is betrothed to another woman. However, Julien does the right thing and dissolves the betrothal with the woman he doesn’t love in order to claim Rose for his own. Things are starting to look up until another lightning strike takes Rose back to the present just minutes after she and Julien wed. Does she reunite with Julien again? You’ll have to read the book to find out. I received an ebook copy in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own.

Time travel romances are a hard nail to hit right on the head, especially when it's a novella rather than a novel, as everything has to move at a fast pace. Rose as the displaced heroine is a thoroughly modern woman, her inability to fit in with thirteenth century France was shown well, and I did like the fact that it was shown beforehand that she spoke French extremely well so we weren't expected to believe that she simply knew it.  Julien as the stone mason apprentice who finds her is a little more hard to place, though for the most he is within character there are times when I thought I'm not sure about that, but it wasn't big and it wasn't major so didn't affect my overall enjoyment of the story to any great extent. This is a sweet time travel romance that is mostly believable though I would have liked to see a little of Julien in the modern world, but hopefully that will come in future stories in the series. So if you enjoy time travel romances and you are looking for a quick sweet read then this would suit you perfectly. I received a free copy for an honest review.
