Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Allison Fetters
Geared toward readers with an interest in football, this sports novel is an endearing tale that speaks loudly of never giving up. Theodore "Boots" Raymond has his heart set on the position of quarterback when he decides to go out for football. He does not realize until the day of tryouts that he is too big for a quarterback and is assigned the right-tackle position. Boots experiences a series of changes beginning with a less-than-perfect attitude that eventually progresses to a desire to work hard for his team. Through correspondence with his brother, Tom, who is away in the military, Boots is encouraged to stick with playing football and to give it his all no matter what postion he is assigned. Boots also learns a great deal about friendship as one of his best friends, Duck, steps out on a limb to call Boots on his actions. This book is recommended for anyone with an interest in sports. Its positive message is a strong reminder of the value of teamwork in all circumstances. Reviewer: Allison Fetters

    Tough to Tackle Book Review

Do you like football? Do you like books that will keep you on the edge of your seat? Well, if you do this book is for you. It is called Tough to Tackle by Matt Christopher. I highly recommend this book because it keeps you guessing throughout the entire story. One of the main characters of the book is Boots Rebles. He is the best player on the football team but suddenly he wants to quit because he doesn¿t want to play anymore. The team knows that they will lose the season if Boots is not playing on their team. Boots¿ older brother Tom learns of the situation and becomes involved. He talks to Boots about his being a soldier and shares his stories of wanting to quit but couldn¿t because he knew he would be letting down not only his teammates but also his country. Tom taught Boots that quitting was not the answer but Boots had to be the one to make the final decision about quitting or staying on the team. This book will make you want to read more than just a few chapters at a time. It is very hard to put it down. I recommend this book to ages 11 and up. It is a great book for sports fans. Will Boots quit the team? What will happen next? Read the book and find out.

    more from this reviewer

I would give it more if I could

I read the book Tough to Tackle. The story of a boy named Boots. He wanted to play QB for the Apollos but didn't get to because of his weight. His coach says he needs to play tackle because it will be best for the team. Boots brother is in the army and knows a lot about being on a team. So he asked his brother if he should stay or should quit the team. Will boots quit the team. Or will he stay at tackle. Read it to find out. If you ask me this is a MUST - READ - DON"T - IT - PASS - BY book
