Since the publication of the first edition of this book in 1983, Toyota has integrated JIT with computer integrated manufacturing technology, a strategic information system, redesign of assembly lines, and a philosophy that incorporates respect for workers.

This is probably the single most comprehensive book on the Toyota Production System in English. It outlines how the system employs JIT in practice. It is somewhat technical in some areas, but definitely more practical than the book by the founder of TPS - Ohno. To get a more thorough perspective also read: Toyota Management System (Monden), Kanban - JIT at Toyota (Lu), Integrating Kanban with MRP II (Louis), Lean Thinking (Womack), Kaizen (Imai), 5S (Hirano), The Toyota Suggestion System (Fujimoto), and Hoshin Kanri (Akao)Was this review helpful?
