I looked at a lot of knitting kits before buying this one. I knit, and I wanted something manageable for my daughter (9) who has been asking to learn to knit. One issue I noticed with many kits was bad needles. I like the needles in this kit very much--they are bamboo and the yarn slides off of them, but not too slickly/fast. They're a lot sturdier than the plastic needles some kits include. And I personally knit with bamboo, so I am glad to see this for beginners. It has a nice book to explain things (although with all knitting books, I do recommend having a live human on hand to show you, too, because pictures can't fully explain an action like knitting.) It's set up so that the beginner can make a real project and feel like they got something out of it. Sure, you can buy all the materials separately and do your own "kit"--but if you're looking for something manageable, with a direct product for your work that you can feel good about, I think this is probably the best kit out there.
