I grew up playing the classic "Luddo" and wanted to introduce our 4 year old to it. The royal edition means that each player gets their own cup & a pair of dice (4 cups & 8 dice total). Technically you can play with just 1 pair of dice shared among the 4 players. I advise having at least 3 players to use strategies, but 2 is fine if playing with a little one. The quality of the materials used in the game are great, every adult in the family were saying "ooh" & "aah" upon laying eyes on the game. This game turns serious players into sharks!! As for our 4 year old, who just wanted to toss the dice from the cup & move her pieces, enjoyed it initially but I think she's a bit young for the strategies to really beat the opponents. After a while she just rolled away from the game board. Hopefully we'll get her into it with time. During my first game, my strategies made my chess-playing dad quit the game early ...haha!
I have my game from when I was a kid and this one is like the orginal. I have looked for years to find this game. I got 3 of them today because you can not find these unless you can find the old game from way back when. Thanks a bunch, I got these for family and friends who have played my old game. What a great surprise to find today....
but the original version had flat tokens not pawns. This is the version I had for my kids but the one I played with my mother had flat wooden tokens, and the game I played with Gram had flat metal wrapped pieces. This is truly not the original, and I am really not THAT old. This is a wonderful game for all ages.
I have always loved the game Parcheesi, but have not been able to find it in any stores. Thanks to Barnes & Noble, I found it online and ordered it as a Christmas gift. The quality is excellent! I love the little rolling cups for the dice, and the wooden colored pieces are bright and colorful. Looks just like the original version! I recommend it to anyone who loves games like SORRY! Too much fun! :)
