My great granddaughter love the nesting sock monkeys. That they exist is interesting to me as my great grandfather invented the sock knitting machine. He came to Rockford, IL in 1852. The Nelson Knitting Co. was incorporated in 1880, so it was my family that originally manufactured the work socks that the dolls were made from. The red heel was introduced in 1932 as a way of advertising the "Rockford" sock.
