Abby’s pact with a daemon

Overview

From the author of A Brush of Darkness and A Sliver of Shadow comes the third book in a smart, sexy, urban fantasy series.

Drinking from the waters of lethe and offering herself up as Faerie’s sacrificial Tithe . . . these just might be the least of Abby Sinclair’s problems.

Abby’s pact with a daemon—whether or not she remembers making it—is binding, so she’d better count herself lucky that (in the words of a daemon who knows better) there’s nearly always a loophole. But her friends’ reckless attempts to free her, well intentioned though they may be, set off a disastrous chain of events. In no time at all, Abby turns her incubus lover mortal, then gets herself killed, cursed, and married to an elven prince whose mother wants her dead. On top of everything else, she’s lost the Key to the CrossRoads to her mortal enemy, who promptly uses his restored power to wreak havoc on the OtherWorld and put its very existence in jeopardy. Only one person can make things right again, but to find her, Abby must place her trust in allies of mixed loyalties, and conquer her nightmares once and for all.

Book 3 in the Abby Sinclair series opens with Abby dreaming...and a very sexy dream at that...of a very sexy man who reminds her of someone she just can't place. She initially rebuffs dream guy, stating that she's engaged to a Faerie Prince, but he is rather persistent and after all, it's just a dream. However, something unexpected happens and she wakes up back in the palace in Faerie. Abby drifts along believing that she's betrothed to Talivar and doesn't remember any of the obstacles facing her or Faerie. Her friends are trying everything they can think of to restore Abby's memory since she drank the lethe water at the end of A Sliver of Shadow, but so far nothing is working and they are running out of time. Only when Abby has a deathly run-in with Maurice, losing the Key to the CrossRoads in the process, does Abby regain her memories and her fight for peace between the paths begins again. Once again, Allison Pang delivers with fantastic story-telling, kick-ass action, lots of snark, and wonderfully flawed characters. A Trace of Moonlight is the final book in the series and while the majority of plot points are wrapped up there are enough left open for either the reader to draw their own conclusions or for Ms. Pang to move on with another character (Melanie anyone? Pleasssse? *big puppy-dog eyes to Ms. Pang*) I highly recommend the entire series and you really should start with book 1, A Brush of Darkness. I'm crossing my fingers for Allison Pang to continue telling stories in this world, but even if she moves on to another, she's on my must read list!

A Trace of Moonlight is book three in the Abby Sinclair series. It picks up shortly after A Sliver of Shadow. Abby has lost her memory after drinking from the waters of lethe and doesn't know what is going on. Talivar is taking care of Abby, and trying to find a way to recover her memory and save her from being the Tithe. On a stroll in the garden Abby sees Maurice who is being held in Faerie for his actions in the last book. He escapes with something very important, and mortally injures someone, which causes a ton of issues for everyone. After dealing with all the hubbub, the Queen still needs Abby to be the Tithe, a human sacrifice to keep the peace between the demons and Faerie. To keep Abby in place she places a geas on her so she cannot go to the CrossRoads. This rubs Talivar the wrong way, so he enacts a plan to ensure their escape from under the Queen's thumb. A good portion of the book revolves around the Eildon tree, which basically holds the CrossRoads together. After a fight near the tree it's a race against the clock to find Maurice and save the CrossRoads. Abby is left to make hard decisions, and save multiple lives. The relationship aspect of the book is pretty much the same as in book two. There is a love triangle, and I still wasn't sure who I wanted Abby to wind up with. I could tell that Talivar cares for Abby and she cares for him, but I just wasn't sure. Brystion on the other hand was in this book more and I leaned his way slightly. A Trace of Moonlight is an fast read that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I love that Abby doesn't always make the wisest decisions, and her character isn't perfect in every way. I highly recommend this series, if you haven't read Allison Pang's work yet you are missing out.
