Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Miranda McClain
When Kyle learns his school will be hosting an Olympic Fest he is trepidatious to say the least. When he learns he will be competing in the track and field throwing events his interest peaks but once he tries his hand at the hammer throw and witnesses his competition his apprehension returns. He fares a little better at the other events but knows he will have to do a lot of practicing if he wants to beat Trevor, his most obnoxious opponent. Kyle never gives up and with some help from his friends as well as hard work and determination his perseverance pays off. Examples of friendship, persistence, and good sportsmanship abound in this entertaining book that will have reluctant readers coming back for more and educators will find the glossary, discussion questions, writing prompts, and historical facts in the back appealing. It may even encourage readers to get out there and try something new. Reviewer: Miranda McClain
