Reviewed by Lori M for Readers Favorite Having read probably hundreds of business books over the years, I was wondering how this book was going to present something new that hadn't already been written before. Gino Wickman's Traction is . He doesn't just "steal" the ideas of others, but he gives credit where credit is due and builds upon each theory and practice to create one large success formula that he believes should be utilized by all business owners, large and small. Wickman created his own formula, the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS), that he describes in great detail throughout the book. He masterfully lays out what he believes to believe the six key components and then provides a "Pulling It All Together" section in Chapter 9. You'll get a kick out of his "Letting Go of the Vine" story at the beginning of Chapter 2. In this section, he explains how most business owners are unable to reach the next level because they're not ready to let go of the vine. I could see myself in that chapter when I was managing a small business and tried to stay hands-on in every aspect of the business. As Wickman proves, it is not a good idea to try to that; you have to learn how to let go. This is a good resource for business students and business owners alike.

TRACTION: GET A GRIP ON YOUR BUSINESS by Gino Wickman was a slightly different book for me to review, as my regular readers will notice. Due to my current educational state, I figured it would be an interesting choice, however, so I embarked on a mission to learn about business ownership and management. TRACTION spends a lot of time encouraging the reader to focus on goal setting and analysis. Are your goals appropriate for what you're doing? Is what you're doing appropriate for your goals? The idea is to stop spinning your wheels so much and get down to the business of running your business in an effective and efficient manner. I see this book helping those running a business to both start and set goals from the beginning and get a wayward business back on track. Perhaps your business is bordering the line between profit and disaster. TRACTION has some good tips and advice for how to pull yourself in and focus on the important aspects of the business. Not every person runs a business the same way and TRACTION will help the reader learn the best way to run his or her business. I found Mr. Wickman's writing style to be easily understandable and conducive to a casual reader looking for good advice. This isn't a textbook with dry language where the reader has to force themselves to turn the pages. The pages turn easily here, the promise of great information too tempting to stop reading. Furthermore, his advice seems very realistic. I have not had the opportunity to put any of it into effect yet, but this book is the kind that I could see anyone running a business being able to use effectively. This is a book for your average Joe and one that he or she might benefit from.

Why do some businesses prosper while others fail? Is it all luck? What can you do to save your business? If you have questions like these, check out Traction: Get a Grip on Your Business. Gino shares simple tools to help make your business a success. You will learn where your strengths and weaknesses with your business are, which will enable you to focus on what part of your company needs more work. Like I've said before, some people don't believe that blogging is a business. It may not be for some but there are others like me who spend our days on the blogosphere and making money doing it. I found this book to be a very helpful tool for any entrepreneur, no matter how big the business is.
