Trading Beyond the Matrix is a comprehensive guide to becoming a better trader. It is the most complete approach I have found that brings together the psychology of self-development with the profession of trading. According to the author, Dr. Van Tharp, this includes personal transformations, setting objectives, position sizing, having a business plan for trading and embracing Tharp Think concepts. I have been a professional trader for over 25 years and this process is not common knowledge – let it become your advantage in the markets. The preface of the book includes a discussion of 3 of the 4 transformations Van outlines within the book, which are: transformation of the trading game; understanding the matrix and reprogramming yourself; and trading beyond the matrix by raising your level of consciousness. Section One has 5 chapters, each written by people that have embraced Tharp Think and Van’s methods. I found their sharing to be motivational. The section ends with Van’s discussion on the concepts of Tharp Think. Section Two is about the importance of your personal psychology and the impact it has on trading. This section includes understanding your beliefs and how to change them into something that is more useful to you as a trader. In Van’s words, a trader does not trade the market, but instead trades his beliefs about the market. And if the beliefs about the market are not useful, then they must be eliminated or they will sabotage trading. This section outlines how to deal with emotions and trapped feelings and how we can look at ourselves as a collection of parts – often competing and more often a block to profitable trading. Chapters outline powerful tools (like Libby Adams’ Transformational Meditation™) that can eliminate limiting beliefs and negative emotions and assist with a fuller perspective for what is possible, especially the connection with Inner Guidance. Van includes his personal story of Inner Guidance. It is a brave addition to the book and one that seems to have received mixed reviews. I would say it can be viewed as Van’s personal journey of coming to realize how we create our reality – how we see the world and react to our experiences. A unique journey is available to us all. This is a huge edge in trading and in my opinion should not be discounted. Quoting Einstein, “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” Section Three of the book includes stories and methods of personal transformation to enable you to increase your level of consciousness to be only in the present moment – transformation four. Once again these are real people that share the profound transformations they have experienced through working with Van. Van is comprehensive in his understanding and detailing the importance of personal psychology and the journey of self-knowledge in trading. There are many useful resources included in the book and on the Van Tharp Institute’s website. Finally, I'd like say that I have known Van not only as an author, mentor, and instructor but also as a person with a deep desire to assist people in their transformations both in trading and in life. Some of the concepts may not be readily embraced in either the trading community or even in a broader context. Van believes, and I share this belief, that this material can help people - may you be open to what it can offer you. This book von Dr. Van Tharp is excellent. He makes in this book clear that it is not enough having a trading strategy but essential to look for the most important factor in trading that’s yourself. Before you can trade any system you have to clear all your psychological issues and become aware what drives you before starting with trading. The content of this book is what Dr. Van Tharp teaches in his workshops and his Super Trader Program. This book gives instructions how to deal with feelings, goals and other trading related topics. If you want to transform yourself to accomplish great success in your life as well as in trading then this book is great to start with. Otherwise if you want to avoid self-work and fearing to change yourself probably this book is not the right one for you. I can highly recommend to start with the elementary first which this book is for.
...may i have your attention please... this is one of those books, which you either like or not (by the way exactly what the STAR RATING DISTRIBUTION shows :) (clearly more likes than not) well, this book can be seen like the original matrix movie there are two main actors, morpheus (Dr Tharp, Author) and neo (YOU). Dr Tharp gives you the chance to see whats beyond the matrix (according to him) even before you have to choose what pill to take. and this "little factor" gives enough space to argue about "the truth" in the book. a couple of people will always choose to not belive it (the blue pill) morpheus: "You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it." (protect it = give it a bad review) no one promises you that you will like what you are about to read. in fact, neo has had his starting problems too and needed lots of convictions before he was able to stop the bullets with his hands. in other words: detach from the matrix and not belive it anymore and start to succeed" the difficult part of it is, wheter YOU decide to accept what Dr Tharp says. (taking the red pill) its all up to you. one thing is for sure to me though. thats the last chance in my lifetime that somone is gonna show me whats beyond the matrix (whats really important in trading) in such a complete and comprehensive way, like this book does Ive been through the book twice and I have accepted whats inside im sure you will find at least ONE SENTENCE in this book, that will have a great impact on your trading no matter where your trading abilities are at the moment. be warned... there will be many things to digest.. :-) whether you like this book or not, depends on how much YOU are ready to find out ***"go and find out" thats my best advice I can give you*** best trading book in years
This book should be in the New Age Mysticism section. This book is less about trading and more about some hogwash BS on pursuing a new age philosophy. Save your money because you will not learn a thing about investing reading this worthless book. If you want to learn about New Age BS than go to the religious section, you will find it more worthwhile...
This book places front and center the most important part of trading: you and your spiritual beliefs. Transformations experiences shared by many traders are profound. A must read for the novice as well as for the experienced trader.
I have had the honor of reading Dr. Tharp's book before it was published. Out of all of his reads, this by far is his best. It has touched me in more ways than I can imagine and has encouraged me to grow psychologically and financially.
