Nice starter kit, but don't expect perfection...

I bought this kit to get an idea of how hard or easy it would be to work on this craft. It has six different types of washi paper (though I'm not sure if this is truly washi paper or something similar, but cheaper). The designs are quite nice, though they repeat the same six patterns in the remaining six papers, so you get two attempts to make a nice piece. I bought more wooden eggs from Joann's, as they are the only ones I know of that carry a five-pack of eggs that happen to be of the same size as the one in the kit. Michaels carries only individual eggs, and none of this size, but I did buy one of their medium-sized eggs for the trimmings project mentioned below.

I would suggest looking at washi websites and try their methods of cutting the paper - I often found I had to trim some of it as it was too big for the egg. I also bought a larger egg to try using the trimmings to play with. The glaze provided is only enough for one or two coats in total, and it is very thin. You might want to try other glazes or water-based shellacs, and see what happens. In addition, try pointing every other strip of paper for each end of the egg - it might look better, as less paper will bulk up in the center of the bottom and top. Also get a second brush to apply the glue, and thin it slightly with water. It will help the edges adhere better. Still a great kit to explore with!
