It is early 1991, and Shelton Cole has just turned thirteen. Barely surviving the aftermath of a car accident that has killed not only his brother but also his parents' marriage, Shelton is thrilled when he becomes instant chums with Richie Kemp, a transplant from New York who has moved to New Hampshire with his mother to escape the stigma of his father's imprisonment. But after Richie's mother marries a man who revels in abusing Richie, the two troubled teenagers decide to embark on a journey that will change their lives forever.

As the two boys begin a life on the run, an old drifter takes them under his wing and introduces Shelton and Richie to an underground society of vagabonds, opening the boys' eyes to a strange new world and unwittingly setting the course to a horrific chain of events that soon spiral out of control.

Seventeen years later, Shelton returns to New Hampshire to fulfill a childhood promise to Richie. As he is flooded with buried memories, Shelton must face the demons of his tragic past before he can move forward.

Train of Consequences is a captivating thriller that highlights an unforgettable coming-of-age journey of friendship, misconceptions, and discovery.

This book was riveting, and kept my attention for the entire time. The story is gritty and real, the characters are engaging, and the settings are nicely detailed. I highly recommend this book to anyone!

This book was sent to me via the author for a honest and fair review. And all I can say is wow, what a great ride to go on. While the bad experience the boys face and right in your face, the journey they take was great to say the least. They were there when the other needed someone to help make things better. When Richie can't take it anymore he flees with Shelton with him. They go through some pretty intense situations, the writing used in this story was great. Telling the story of two boys coming to grip with life. Shelton takes us on a great journey through what happened to them. Definitely a book I could read again and again. I can't wait to see what the author will write next.

With suspenseful and animated storytelling, Tom Jarvis's first novel grabs the reader immediately. His characters are well-crafted and full of gritty realism. He explores themes of life, death, abuse, redemption, and salvation through friendship and brotherhood in a fast paced read. "Train of Consequences" brings the audience right on board the non-stop express journey of a young man's loss of innocence to the horrors the world sometimes holds in store. Jarvis has created a great work, illustrating the bond tragic events can create that turn friends into brothers.
