Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Jennifer Mitchell
Felicity is distressed when a flyer is dispersed through town accusing her friend's father of being a Loyalist. Since this is pre-Revolutionary Williamsburg, this is the worst thing a person could be accused of. Things become dangerous for Felicity's family when her father agrees to help Mr. McLeod. Fiona's family flees in terror after Mr. McLeod is nearly tarred and feathered. Then, Felicity's father mysteriously disappears, and another flyer starts to circulate. This new flyer accuses Felicity's father of being a Loyalist. Also, in Mr. Merriman's absence, his account books disappear. When Mr. Merriman returns to Williamsburg, he is arrested, and the account books from his store are located and seized. Felicity and her friend, Elizabeth discover a pattern in the accusations circulating in town, but they must work quickly to discover who is behind the false accusations. Mr. Merriman must go to trial to defend himself, and the girls must get the assistance of their friends if they are to solve the mystery before a terrible fate befalls Felicity's father. This book is part of the "American Girl Mysteries" series. Reviewer: Jennifer Mitchell

Traitor in Williamsburg written by Elizabeth McDavid Jones is yet another entertaining and successful American Girl Mystery. Traitor in Wailliamsburg is a mystery taking place in Felicity Merriman's homeplace, pre-revolutionary Williamsburg. Felicity Merriman is a colonial historical character growing up with a Patriot father and a Loyalist mother. However, things start to get tense when Felicity's friend's father is accused of being a Loyalist and is tarred by all the townspeople and then feathered. Felicity and her best friend, Elizabeth Cole, are sorry to see the McLeods flee town. But other things start happening too. Things start to go missing and Felicity suspects there is a real traitor living in Williamsburg. Only question is, who is the traitor? It isn't before long until Felicity's own father is accused of being a traitor to Williamsburg and is arrested. Felicity is more determined and rushing than ever to find who is the real traitor that set up her father. Felicity and Elizabeth find important clues and even stay for a while in a graveyard to find out who the traitor is and save Felicity's father. This book ends with a dramatic twist and an unforgettable story that will stay in your mind and heart forever. Like any other American Girl Mystery this book will keep you reading for hours until you have finished with it. I think girls will learn how important family, friendship, patriotism, and most of all, having hope, even during hard times is. Thus book is also the perfect combination of girlhood, pre-revolutionary times, mystery, drama, and hope. I praise Eluzabeth McDavid Jones and AG( American Girl) with four stars for this amazing historical mystery. This book is for any girl who adores mystery, colonial times, AG, or the Felicity Merriman collection, this book is perfect for you. Hope you like it as much as I did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mystery and suspense abound in this American Girl novel. Felicity must uncover a traitor before another one of Williamsburg, Virginia's prominent citizens are incarcerated due to lies. As time draws closer for Mr. Merriman's trial, will Felicity discover the identity of the traitor? What does the Widow Reed, Elizabeth, Ben, and Walter do that may assist in uncovering the truth? What evidence is used in Mr. Merriman's trail? Is the evidence authentic? Plenty of twists and turns with enough mystery and suspense to keep you wanting to read more. **This work of fiction is well written and has great character development. If you enjoy this American Girl mystery, you may want to read: The Silver Guitar, A Thief in the Theater, The Curse of Ravenscourt, Secrets in the Hills, The Runaway Friend, The Light in the Cellar, Peril at King's Creek, Midnight in Lonesome Hollow, The Silent Stranger, and Shadows on Society Hill; these were all wonderful works of fiction.
