Overview

In America, 22.2% of adult women are binge drinkers, and 8.7% of the entire population engages in illicit drug use. The result is 21.6 million Americans, age 12 and older, need treatment and only 2.3 million receive it. Yet untreated addiction is more expensive than our nation's leading causes of death: heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.

TRANSFORMED is the story of one addict who received treatment repeatedly, only to relapse again and again. With all the tools she had at her disposal- the emotional support of her family, financial support, a college education, a successful career, devout faith, plenty of people who loved and admired her- she still needed more help. What hope do other addicts or those with fewer resources have? Read her words and find out.

TRANSFORMED is a real-world love story between MJ and God, and the relationship anyone who asks can have with faith. No on is unredeemable. No one is without God's hop for them. No matter what faith or religion, everyone is supported by this highest power, and their Creator's deepest love. As MJ puts it, God pursued her to Hell to rescue her, and despite her behavior, His grace was her for the asking. TRANSFORMED is a book exploring the depths of addiction, the struggle to find hope in the darkest days, the crushing threat of relapse, and the ultimate triumph of the choice to live in the light. No one who reads TRANSFORMED can walk away unaffected by this powerful memoir.

Meet the Author

Mary Jane Smith is a pseudonym for the author of TRANSFORMED: Homecoming Queen, Drug Addict, Spiritual Warrior. In this first book, she tells the unvarnished story of her upbringing, education, successful career, drug experimentation and addiction, loss, and ultimately her recover. Mary Jane's story is not one that is easy to read- like many memoirs of addiction, it is full of events anyone would wish to forget.

Mary Jane protects the identities of the family members and friends who agreed to speak about their experiences. She chose to publish under a pseudonym to also protect her own career. Mary Jane holds an executive position in a high profile organization she wishes to shield from those who still believe that addiction only happens to bad or weak people. Mary Jane is living proof that drug addiction can happen to anyone, that it can turn an educated and successful person into someone who lies, cheats, and steals; that a "good upbringing" is no guarantee, and that even the most hopeless-appearing addicts have the capacity to change their lives.

If you think addiction only happens to other kinds of people, Mary Jane's book will shatter those notions. Addiction crosses every boundary: societal, educational, racial, financial, moral, religious. Yet in spite of years of transgressions, Mary Jane believes that anyone can recover; the first step is asking for help. She writes so that people struggling with addiction- whether themselves or that of a loved one- understand what it took for her to finally recover, how much fortitude and support are necessary, and how simple faith is integral.

Beautifully written, Transformed is the true life story of one woman's battle to the death with drug addiction. It illustrates that no matter how charmed one's life may be, addiction can snatch it away- but with God's help, miracles can happen. This is a truly unforgettable memoir.

Thank God a woman who has had so much turmoil and so much love in her life finally speaks up and shares that God does love us despite our challenges. Thank you for speaking up for EVERY woman who has been deemed "drug addict" and given us our respect back. People CAN change!
