Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
It seems that whenever there is a new television show, there are some spinoff early readers. New readers are introduced to the creatures called Autobots. While the Autobots try to blend in with the world around them, they have a hard time doing so. The leader of the group is named Optimus Prime. He seems to be a walking toolkit and always ready to come to the rescue of his friends. Another one of the Autobots is Bull, who seems to be pretty powerful and not someone you would want to mess with. Bumblebee is bright yellow with black stripes just like the real bumblebee and according to the book his stinger can stun anything that comes in its path. Prowl seems to have some similarities to a cat—he can creep up on an enemy and he is always ready for a fight. Ratchet is another one who is always there to help his friends—he has magnetic powers and medical skills. And then there are Sari and his dad Isaac, a robot scientist. With all these good guys, there has to be a bad guy and in this case it is Magatron, the leader of the Decepticons. He has some buddies, one of whom is Starscream another one called Blackarachnia who has the characteristics of a poisonous spider. Then there is Lockdown as well as Lugnut—plenty of muscle for the bad guys. It looks like things are shaping up for a battle between these robots. The early reader, which is a level two book in the "I Can Read" series, is just designed to introduce these characters. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
