Transformers: The Score [Original Motion Picture Score]

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide
Steve Jablonsky's dynamic score to the 2007 big-budget, big-screen version of the Transformers cartoon show (and classic toy line), proved so appealing to fans of the film that an online petition was actually put into place to push for release of a CD version of the music. The voice of Transformer Nation was apparently heard loud and clear, and a CD was released in due time. Featuring a bold mix of electronic music and more traditional orchestral pieces, the score strikes a nice balance between the film's sci-fi bombast and its more terrestrial concerns.

    A reviewer

Although the movie was great, it would have been lacking if not for the music. Together, the movie & the music makes you feel....period. Even standing alone, the music is awesome. I could hardly wait a couple of weeks until Christmas to see if I would get it. When I didn't...I immediately went out and bought it. I love it and never tire of listening to it.

    More Than Meets The Ear

Much like the film, this score is something one would not expect from a Michael Bay summer blockbuster. And while the liberal use of percussion and electronic pieces might tempt many to ignore this album, the music provided by Jablonsky is much more than a pounding action album. It is equal parts comedic, emotional, sinister, majestic, and downright heroic. Jablonsky has managed to weave a tight and powerful tapestry of film music, leaving no major character or faction without a personal theme. He crafts a unique sound and nature into each theme that is both heard and felt when listening. You will feel the dark presence of Megatron and his minions in “Decepticons”, and you will swell with pride as you hear the noble fanfare of Optimus and his warriors in “Autobots”. Your pulse will race from the powerful call-to-action military theme in “Scorponok”, you will be entranced by the awe and spectacle in “The Allspark”, and you will be filled with hope as you behold the Autobots' descent in “Arrival to Earth”. Jablonsky’s use of thematic material is further enhanced by his lush orchestration, particularly in the strings. The powerful way he utilizes the strings, particularly the celli, creates an atmosphere that is heartbreaking at one instance, mysterious the next, and beautiful in every last iteration. No doubt Jablonsky has created a majestic score. Ever since the theatrical release of the Transformers live action film, fans have been clamoring for the release of this music, and it’s no surprise why. This music is truly wonderful to hear with the film, accentuating its moments as necessary. But once you can hear the music itself, and experience it's grandeur and strength, you’ll find that there’s much more to it than meets the ear.

    A Masterpiece

The movie is an all round feel good movie, and the music outlines that fact. This movie was a hit because of the music, that may or may not be believeable, but thats what I thought as soon as I left my seat. Steve Jablonsky has reached new levels in score writing, and I appreciate his skill and passion for it. I look forward to his compilations to come, and I am greatly excited about the score to Transformers, which transformed this summer blockbuster into a hit.
