Purpose: The purpose is to assist the licensed practical nurse/licensed vocational nurse (LPN/LVN) with role transition to the registered nurse role. In this era of career mobility curricula, this book presents worthy objectives that are met by the authors.
Audience: The intended audience includes licensed practical nursing students and licensed vocational nursing students and the faculty teaching in these programs. The authors are credible authorities.
Features: Faculty teaching LPN/LVN to RN courses and former LPN/LVN to RN students were surveyed to determine needs of LPNs as they made the transition to a RN program. The results of the survey provided the content for the book. Of particular interest is the section on nurse as caregiver. This section addressed the provider of care, clinical decision making and the nursing process, client teaching and principles of communication. The appendixes provide helpful information on the NCLEX question format, assessment skills, IV therapy skills, medication preparation and administration competencies, the ANA Code of Ethics, the International Council of Nurses' Code of Ethics, the National Student Nurses' Association (NSNA) Code of Professional Conduct and the NSNA Code of Academic and Clinical Conduct.
Assessment: This is an important contribution to published resources on the topic of role transition.
