This book about trap and skeet shooting gives insight into a challenging sport that many kids and adults know nothing about, especially in certain geographic areas. Many popular sports involve hitting a target, and shooting a target with a gun for fun is something that has been around for hundreds of years. Skeet, which means shoot, is more like wild bird hunting than trap shooting is in that the targets are launched from two separate locations and fly across the field in front of the shooters. In trap shooting, only one trap throws clay pigeons. Short and easy-to-read or skim chapters about the materials needed, the rules, how to get involved in a shooting club, and some of the professionals involved in the sport are given. There are many photos throughout the book as well as a time line and fun facts at the end. Classes could discuss the history of shooting targets or how certain past Presidents of the United States liked to shoot targets; the physics or math of hitting a target; or a discussion of ethics related to guns. Meet the Author

Shane Frederick has been writing about sports since he worked for his high school newspaper in Wisconsin. He currently covers college hockey and other sports for "The Free Press" newspaper in Mankato, Minnesota, and has won awards for his stories from the Associated Press and the Society of Professional Journalists. He is also the author of several sports books, including "The Best of Everything Football Book" and "The Ultimate Guide to Pro Football Teams". A graduate of the University of St. Thomas, Shane lives in Mankato with his wife, Sara, their three children, Ben, Jack, and Lucy, and their dog, Molly.

Brenda Haugen started in the newspaper business and had a career as an award-winning journalist before finding her niche as an author. Since then, she has written more than 50 books and edited hundreds more, most of them for children. A graduate of the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, Brenda lives in North Dakota with her dog, Alice, who chose Brenda when she went to the Humane Society thinking she was there to adopt another dog.
