Children's Literature - Sharon Oliver
This volume from "The Global Village" series presents a very focused and detailed look at world travel and tourism. Inskipp covers the economic, cultural and environmental impacts of tourism in great detail, and we learn the pros and cons of the tourism industry. After a brief introduction, each of the topics is presented in-depth, with examples from countries worldwide. The economic impact discussion includes the hidden costs of tourism, the effect on local economies and the effect on local businesses. The book also includes a selection of high-quality photographs, "Focus On" questions for thought or essay, "Eyewitness" boxes that quote local citizens, and questions for debate or discussion. Numerous charts and graphs help readers to understand and analyze relevant data. This title is reminiscent of a textbook and won't be used for light informational reading. However, as a resource for projects and papers, it would be an excellent addition to public or high school libraries. Contains a table of contents, a list of suggested books, a list of web sites, a glossary, an index, and details about teaching resources for further information. Reviewer: Sharon Oliver
