This book is a collection of twenty-nine articles, most of which have been published in American travel magazines. The plethora of stories within each article is personal, informative, entertaining and timeless. In Latin America you will travel across rural Guatemala and socialistic Venezuela by minivan, visit the driest area on earth (in Chile), travel on a shoestring around Patagonia in Argentina, and explore mysterious Easter Island-the most remote inhabited island in the world. In Europe you will cruise the coast of Norway and visit some small ports along the way; tour several capital cities in Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic; explore western and eastern Turkey; and take an entertaining cruise from Moscow to St. Petersburg in Russia.
In Africa you will bus across South Africa’s famous Garden Route, travel by overland truck for six weeks from Cape Town to Nairobi, visit numerous tribes in Kenya, Tanzania and Ethiopia, tour famous archaeological sites in Egypt, discover the rarely visited island of Madagascar, and relax in the sun-baked Seychelles islands in the middle of the Indian Ocean. In Asia you will experience India, Nepal and Tibet, cruise down the Yangtze River in China, tramp through the jungles of Borneo, attend the colorful Goroka Festival in exotic Papua New Guinea, and peek behind the “bamboo curtain” in North Korea. In Oceania you will go camping in central Australia, visit Tasmania by minivan, and endure a hurricane in Tonga and meet the charming king of that island nation.
You will also take a fascinating sea voyage to Antarctica where you will visit various research stations and meet the local “residents” (penguins). Finally, you will take a whirlwind tour around the world, traveling on the Trans-Siberian train across Russia and another train across the vast of Canadian landscape.

I sure got my money’s worth when I bought this book! For less than a Starbucks I bought it from Barnes and Noble and read it over two weekends. It’s great! Lots of stories, good humor, fascinating places, and more.

So many wonderful stories of the author’s adventures. He amazed me by his courage and his enterprising spirit. The author wrote a wonderful book of courage and exemplified his adventures in excellent prose.

I gave this book a 5-star rating (which I rarely do) because it was just plain excellent from beginning to end. “Travel is my Passion” taught me a lot about our world, but most importantly, I learned that folks are nice everywhere in the world, including in North Korea, as exemplified in this book.

My grandma and I enjoyed reading this book together. She’s 78 years old and I’m almost 12 years old. I learned a lot about different places in the world. And so did Grandma.

I sat down and read near one third of this excellent book in just one reading. That’s how taken I was with this book. Hendrickson writes extremely well, focuses on his subject without digressions, and engages the reader in discovering his or her own passions in life. A super read!

A 5-star book if I ever saw one, this exciting and adventure-filled book is in excellent taste. It’s filled with passion, romance for the road, love of travel, and full of dreams. A wonderful volume, indeed.

Travel is my Passion was interesting to read because the author describes his adventures in such realistic terms. He travels to a zillion countries, tells who he met there, describes the scenery and how he felt, and provides a great deal of knowledge about each nation he visited. A must read!

Travel is my passion, too. I liked traveling vicariously with Hendrickson. In few words, he says a lot. I like his bravado, his insights into life, the places he visits, and the people he meets there. Thanks for taking me along with you, Jim Hendrickson! (I didn’t even have to pack my bags!)

Few books are as exciting as this book: the theme is travel, travel and more travel. I like the writer’s descriptions of the people he met as well as the so many interesting places he visits.

Hendrickson maintains a modest presence in this popular book created to share with his readers his passion for world travel and for searching and finding more similarities between peoples rather than their differences—an admirable notion that permeates this work of art.

At first glance I thought this would be another travel book of boring factual information, but when I began reading it, it drew me into the author’s heart and soul for traveling solo around the world.

Fresh moments of insights as well as small comedies and agonies make up the author’s stories deeply based in his psyche and soul. The heart of this wonderful book of travels is Hendrickson’s deep compassion for people and his gift for telling a good story.

Travel is my Passion is one of my favorite travel books that I’ve read in the past five years – and believe me, I read LOTS of travel books and magazines. Hendrickson doesn’t take himself too seriously, which makes me laugh and enjoy his works even more. He is modest, well read, writes well, and enjoys life.

I wish I could travel as much as Hendrickson does. I’m glad he wrote this book because I can’t afford to travel much. But the author kindly took me along in this book to many places I’d like to visit one day.

Travel is my Passion is an exciting, wonderful read by a gifted spirit (Hendrickson) who shows that anyone can dream, but that it takes serious effort to realize those dreams. I haven’t really travel to any foreign country, but Hendrickson inspired me to think about traveling abroad.
