In a field quite crowded with textbooks, this one is successful in meeting its objectives. This first edition levels the playing field for all those who practice travel medicine, providing a thorough and complete reference guide.

In particular, the chapter on skin diseases has excellent color photographs. Of special interest are the sections addressing travelers with unusual itineraries, psychological aspects of travel, and environmental aspects of travel. Some may find the sheer volume of information overwhelming, but this only underscores the complexity of the practice of travel medicine.

By adhering to the International Society of Travel Medicine's body of knowledge, it formalizes the information needed to effectively practice travel medicine and has set the standard for future textbooks in this discipline.
