All Music Guide - Jim Smith
Canadian Orval Prophet never made it big outside his native Ottawa Valley, but for a while his relaxed acoustic style and very similar voice offered some competition for fellow Canadian Hank Snow. This enjoyable collection covers his peak recording years from 1952-1958, including six sides cut as Johnny Six at the end of the decade. As with most Bear Family releases, some of these songs are good and some are forgettable, but the sound is great. Prophet worked with many of the best musicians in Nashville, including Grady Martin, Hank Garland, Buddy Emmons, and Floyd Cramer, and their presence helps this to be a quite enjoyable listen.
