A very readable version of the Travels of Marco Polo, however, it is absolutely incredible that there were no maps included. This is a story of travels to many exotic places and even if the reader is familiar with the areas Polo traveled to, the story uses the names of places as used in the 13th century. The book would have gotten 5 stars with suitable maps.

This is a tale like no other that transports the reader back in time and around the world. The account is told in a vast series of small tales, making it an easy read. Its cultural value is tremendous. While I certainly enjoy reading it and learning about Marco Polo's accounts, one major thing have disappointed me about this book: There is no map! I would have liked to more easily understand where Marco Polo was in any given chapter without keeping a computer open trying to Google locations. I would also have liked a greater number of footnotes with additional historical background/clarification. Asia is a big place!

WHile a lot of the old classics that are available from B7N have been scanned elsewhere using ancient OCR technology that just didn't cut it, sometimes you can find them scanned using a good OCR program or with just more dedication to quality. I have gotten a lot of wonderful free and not free books from B&N, but this one I had to have the maps for, so I went to another place dedicated to saving really old manuscripts and maps - a lot of their stuff is good, some not so good. Just as anywhere - caveat emptor! But I go EVERYWHERE with my Nook!

The book had wonderful details of everything you want to know about the travels of Marco Polo, some say that he was a guy in Venice, who made it all up in his head but yet, this wonderful book tells it all which no one could have known, unless you went there. It's pact with chapters, but no maps showing his travel points, but if you follow what going on, you will understand everything well. Great book getting into the story of what it was like in the Chinese middle ages unlike anything else.

Overview
The Travels of Marco Polo is unquestionably one of the world's greatest travel books and the memoir of the West's most famous traveler. Composed in 1298, the book describes Marco Polo's travels across the entire continent of Asia and provides the only comprehensive travelogue of a European traveler in the East in the Middle Ages.In a magisterial geographical sweep, The Travels of Marco Polo traces Polo's epic journey to the farthest reaches of Asia. Polo guides his readers through a realm of pigmies, exotic plants and beasts, fine silks, spices, legends, ornate palaces, and cannibalism. His exuberant and sometimes hyperbolic style had untold impact on ...
