Overview: Reading Lichgates is a requirement before picking up this sequel. The author wastes no time or space reviewing what happens in book one. The writing was less flowery and descriptive than the first book, which is good for speeding up the pace, but bad because I truly love the way S.M. Boyce describes the world she created in her trilogy. Still, this is an excellent continuation to the series and I recommend it to everyone that has read Lichgates. Like the first book, this one is definitely appropriate for MG and YA readers. Characters: Kara has always questioned authority but now she must learn to lead to save Braedon and Ourea. She pushes Braedon away to try to protect him and he does the same to her – which only makes their situations more dire. Braedon is a tortured soul who must question the limits of his Blood bound or risk losing everything that’s dear to him. I think their characters definitely evolved from the first book. They have become not only more mature but also have a harder time resisting very adult urges. The other characters from the first book share limited page time and the only one that definitely feels more developed is Gavin. Of course, Carden is my favorite character. He plays such an excellent villain. Plot: I thought that this book had less of an epic feel than the first. The primary plot seems to be Kara and Braedon trying to figure out a way to be together, despite all odds against them. There are a few great action/torture scenes but it’s feels tamer than the first book. Still, the storyline is compelling to read and I found myself finishing Treason much faster than Lichgates. Ending: Like the first book, it is obvious that the story isn’t over. I’m anxious to figure out what the next stage is for the characters, but this definitely didn’t end as a cliffhanger. (I received a copy in exchange for my honest review as part of the blog tour.)

A world on the brink of war, dark secrets that only continue to spread, a love that's as magical as it is forbidden, Boyce doesn't leave her fans disappointed with the next installment of her captivating Grimoire saga. Pain, confusion, power, weakness, such is the way of a world set for disaster. And the effects don't escape our beloved main characters, Kara and Braeden. As the two struggle to resolve the darkness that's taking over everything they hold dear, they're also forced to come face to face with the struggles within themselves. Although we all hope for light and to see the good prevail, the temptation of giving in and giving up can be far to convincing. Boyce truly outdid herself in her grasp on complexity and the way people and decisions can change the world. Whether intentional or not as each character followed the paths laid out before them and the hopes and aspirations they had set for themselves, they indirectly changed the lives of those they knew. And even the lives of some they didn't know The plot twists were blind-siding, and the further immersion into character's backstories left me unable to stop reading. Once again, I found myself glued to the pages. And the hopes and fears of the characters became my own. My mind is still reeling and I'm already halfway through Heritage in search of the answers. Boyce has a talent unlike anything i've ever experienced. I wish her all the good fortune in the world 10/10

pooled ink Reviews: 4.5 Stars This whole series has been an awesome surprise. I had the first book sitting on my Nook gathering i-Dust because the idea was something that could go either very wrong or very right and I really didn't want to read it and be disappointed. Well, I wasn't! And this sequel is just as great! The plot is something so comfortable and familiar yet totally unique and brilliant. I love this series! I just HAD to get the sequel (yes I may have used some of my food funds for books #collegestudentlife) and it was worth it! I can't wait to save up and get the third book and blow right through that too! These books are such a fast read because they're just so interesting and fast-paced. There are a few moments that are tranquil and calm and allow you to catch your breath and simply drink in the characters and the land of Ourea but other moments are full of plots, action, schemes, plans, romance, betrayal, and more. Yeah, I said AND MORE. The beginning was perhaps a tad slow but once the action started you forgot about that and you were focused on nothing else but the journey. I also really really enjoyed reading from both perspectives of Kara AND Braeden. It really allowed more flexibility in the plot and allowed its readers to travel all over Ourea and be in two places at once or have different thought processes of the same situation which is always interesting. I highly recommend this book to everyone because it's funny, serious, sad, infuriating, clever, intriguing, different and full of action, romance, battles and schemes. Book exchanged for an honest review Kara Magari is The Current Vagabond in Ourea. She's spent the past several months training and learning what it means to be Vagabond with the help of Braeden  Drakonin. Braeden is The Blood Heir of Stele and remains hidden in Hillsdian form for his own protection. The First Vagabond wants Kara to create Vagabond army but Kara is reluctant to do so. The Blood want to control Kara for their own gains. All of Ourea is waiting for war which will happen sooner or later despite Kara's efforts of peace. Kara's fighting her attraction to Braeden for varying reasons. Will The Blood learn Braeden's secret? Can Kara prevent war? Will Kara create Vagabond army? Your answers await you in Treason. I enjoyed the first book more than this one. The story is good and writing is excellent. I just feel I missed a connection somewhere in the reading of the book. Don't get me wrong the characters are interesting and unique. The concept for this series is unique and creative and worth reading. I would continue reading this author in the future.

Book 2 has 1042 pages but you fly through them because you can't put the book down. It is creative and believable how the plots take dips and turns bringing you in further to surpass your expectations of the series. I would love for the author, Ms Boyce, to continue nurturng this series and give us more books to read about Breandon and Kara and their blossoming love while dealing with the continuing mess in Ourea. Happy Reading book lovers.

This series is just amazing! Treason, the second installment just proves it. I absolutely love everything about the world and the plot lines. There's always new secrets to be discovered and new epic battles to be fought. The world building still amazes me and I love every adventure we get to witness. So let's start with the characters that aren't the main two, like the original Vagabond (O.V.) and Gavin. I still don't trust the O.V. at all. There was something I didn't like about him in the first book, and it is still there in this one more. With Gavin, I kind of did a ninety degree angle. I say that because I don't completely love him, but I understand him and I actually felt bad for him in a few parts through out the book. I'm also really hoping we get to see Adele and Garrett in the future. I really like them as characters. With our two leads, Kara and Braeden... I just love them more than ever. Kara literally goes through every ringer possible in this one and watching her keep it together through it all just proves how awesome she is as a protagonist. I'm also really happy of some of the things revealed in this book for her. On the other side is Braeden, whom I absolutely positively adore. Braeden is strong, and fierce, and loyal, and his heart is always in the right place. I just could not love him enough and I really hope he and Kara get a happily ever after. I adore everything about Ourea and everyone in it (well maybe not everyone). See, a contemporary has to suck me right in the beginning or it's a lost cause to me. Fantasy on the other hand is my baby. It never ceases to blow my mind with how creative some authors can get and how well they can take us on a journey. This series does just that and I cannot wait to start Heritage!

This book was better than book one. I enjoyed book one the the author took a few chapters to develope a writing style. It was still a great book and original story. Book two has none of that. The writer as really developed the characters and kept the story original. This series is a gem. So glad i stumbled on to it.

Fantastic book.

It's rare a book pleasantly surprises me, but this book did just that. While I enjoyed the first book in the series, this one was even better. I won't ruin it for any readers but I was thrilled that this book threw something at me I didn't expect (since I am one of those people who almost always knows the ending of a book or movie well before getting there). Run, don't walk to purchase this and go ahead and buy book #3 in the series since you'll be buying it a two or three days later (depending on how fast you can read). Enjoy how S.M. Boyce took her time to develop the hero and heroine in book one, and how it continues in book #2. It's done in a way that you fall for them and enjoy it as it happens. Learn who Kara can trust and who fails. And then buy book #3 - that won't disappoint either.

Very descriptive, you are taken to the author's world. I started book one as a free nook for pc book around Christmas, just had to spend my christmas on the this book and immediately checked for book 3 when I finished this one. I just could not wait to find out what happens next. Trying to go slower with the 3rd one as the next one will not be out til this summer. I do not want too much time between when I finish this one and the next one. I am already impatient for the last book. I do hope to read more of her work in future. The world she describes and the races that inhabit it are amazing.
