Editorial Reviews

Quill and Quire
This book is an ideal tool for teaching water safety basics to early elementary children and preschoolers. At home on public and elementary school library shelves, it should even find its way into aquatic centre collections for instructional use.

Children's Literature - Trina Heidt
All parents worry about their kids around the water and often give them random and incomplete instructions regarding water safety. This book addresses that issue in a fun and very complete way. The main characters, a little girl and her friend dragon, spend the day at the beach frolicking in the water, searching for treasure, and chasing pirates. The little girl already knows quite a lot about water safety and takes it upon herself to teach the not-so water-wise dragon about the things to do and to look for every time one goes swimming. Some of the lessons that the dragon learns include: always have a buddy; the when, where and how to enter the water; where to swim; and when it is okay to dive. Rhyming text makes this story fun to read aloud and makes it move along quite quickly. The pencil crayon illustrations fill each page with lively detail. Along with the amusing story, the "Dragon's Water Safety Rhyme" and the water safety checklist that are included in the back of the book make this a recommended read.

The story line is well written. The kids like the rhyming, and the characters have meaning. The story is also great for both boys and girls. It teaches kids about water safety, and my kids relate to what the characters are doing in the book (going to the beach). I bought the first book in this series ( Once Upon A dragon, stranger safety), and am buying the rest.
