Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Cynthia Levinson
Nancy, George, and Bess are invited to a pirate-themed beach party, given by the wealthy grandmother of two children, Damien and Ivy, and catered by George's mother. Because all the other invitees turned down the invitation, Nancy, George, and Bess are the only guests. Damien and Ivy's cousin, grumpy six-year-old Poppy, attends too. Damien is annoyed that none of the guests is a boy until a ship with two pirates and a talking parrot sails ashore. When the children discover that the treasure chest of party favors has disappeared, Nancy's Clue Crew goes to work. Several suspects emerge, including Poppy, a pirate, and Lonny the Lake Monster. Nancy's father tells her that clues are like treasure chests because you have to keep digging to find them, so they do. In the end, of course, Nancy and her pals find the chest, arrange a party to which everyone will come, and even cheer up Poppy. Readers who revel in Nancy Drew mysteries will find this one equally as perplexing and upbeat as its many predecessors. Reviewer: Cynthia Levinson
