Overview

Each postcard book contains thirty beautifully reproduced images, featuring the best in fine art and photography.

Two hundred years ago, the doors of the Louvre opened to the public for the very first time. The palace of the French kings had been transformed into a museum that today stretches over an enormous architectural ensemble right in the heart of Paris. The royal collections first assembled by Francis I in the sixteenth century have been steadily enriched over the centuries, making the Louvre into perhaps the greatest storehouse of artistic tradition in the world.

The thirty magnificent images superbly reproduced in this postcard collection highlight incomparable works of art from the fifteenth through the nineteenth centuries. Creations by Corot, David, da Vinci, de La Tour, Gainsborough, Goya, Holbein, Ingres, Raphael, Rubens, Titian, and Watteau, among others, demonstrate the extraordinary range of artistry that has found its place in this museum.
